Roma's Italian Beef & Sausage | Our Story

58 years on Cicero Ave — A Neighborhood Tradition Since 1968

Roma's has been Chicago's go-to beef sandwich since before most of our regulars were born. From longtime locals to first-time visitors, generations have stopped at this Portage Park corner for the same legendary beef, sausage, and friendly service. This is how a Portage Park corner became a city institution and a neighborhood legacy spot known across Chicago.

Roma's opened its doors on Cicero Avenue over 58 years ago and never left. While the city changed around it, the recipe didn't — and neither did the line out the door. Today, Roma's remains a long-running local business that generations of Chicagoans continue to call their own.
Community Recognition

Community Recognition

Roma's Italian Beef & Sausage has been a proud part of Chicago's Six Corners community, serving guests with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. After purchasing the restaurant in 2012, Fred and Anna honored the original Italian beef recipe while adding their own special Italian sausage, earning recognition from WGN Chicago's Best and Travel Thirsty. Their goal was simple: to serve great food, support local businesses, and help the neighborhood continue to grow for future generations. Now under new ownership since July 2026 Alan and Alyssa carry on their legacy and mission to provide good food and great customer service.

Tender seasoned beef, piled high and dripping with jus — dipped or dry, sweet or hot. It's the reason people drive across Chicago.

WGN's Chicago's Best featured Roma's, and The Infatuation ranked us among the 11 best Italian beef sandwiches in the city. The accolades followed the food — not the other way around.

The outdoor patio has string lights and a game-day projection screen. Off-street parking, cold drinks, and a $5 lunch special keep guests coming back. As a long-running local business, Roma's has always been a place where friends gather, families return, and regulars feel right at home.
